Frank + Amanda showed up downtown, looking stylish as ever and we got to work. Not only were they patient with me while I was experimenting, I genuinely enjoyed spending time with them. They were creative, energetic, and encouraging. It was a blast to spend the day with them!
Halloween is notorious for being scary and cold, but this year was paranormal. It was a beautiful day; and a beautiful one for a wedding at that. When I arrived at La Malfa, early in the afternoon, Amanda had just finished her makeup and was slipping into her dress. I snap a couple picks and then went to find John for their first look. He led me outside and across the parking lot to a small patch of grass in front of a field and two large power lines. It was a cool 60 degrees and overcast. Everything was perfect. The moment John saw Amanda; his face lit up. He could not stop telling her how beautiful she was and how much he loved her. It was a very touching thing to experience. They spent the rest of the day laughing and celebrating their love for each other with their friends and family. I can't think of a better way to spend Halloween!
Jake and I met a year ago at a Cleveland Instagram Gathering. I had followed him on Instagram prior to the gathering, but we had never really talked. He was one of the few urban explorers that I knew of and his images were absolutely breathtaking. Not only is he an incredible photographer, but he is one of the most encouraging people I have ever met. When he asked me to shoot his engagement photos, I didn't hesitate for a second. I am so happy for him. Angie & Jake are one of those couples that you can tell within seconds of meeting them that they are truly in love. I'm very thankful to have photographed them and to call them my friends.
I met with Kelly for the first time in January of 2015. We spent about an hour going over details about her wedding and I left the meeting with one goal; get this wedding. She told me all about how the focus of their wedding wasn't to throw a big party, but to celebrate her and Dan's new life together. The ceremony was small and the focus was on them. That's the kind of weddings I like so of course I was chomping at the bit trying to book them. Later that day I got a text from Kelly telling me she'd talked to Dan and they had decided yes. I was utterly ecstatic.
Fast forward to a few weeks before the wedding, I was emailing Kelly about something and she asked me to call her. She just wanted to give me a heads up about a schedule change for their wedding day. Something unique. Her and Dan found out that they were pregnant and they decided it would be fun to do a gender reveal at the reception. The closer to the day of the wedding it got, the excitement of everything seemed to heighten. I thought to myself, "There's no way things could get better". Boy, was I wrong!
Fast forward even further to the day of the wedding. October 17th, 2015. I honestly can say I had one of the absolute best times photographing Dan & Kelly's wedding. They are some of the most caring, kind, thoughtful people I've met. They truly love one another. It's evident to everyone. It was an honor to photograph their special day and I cannot wait to watch their family grow.
A few months ago, I was talking with my friend Kate about two of my biggest goals in photography; to travel more for work and to start photographing same sex marriages. Fast forward a couple months. I was taking photos of Kate and she casually remembered that her friends were getting married, but it's all the way in Pennsylvania. I was hooked. I wanted to shoot this wedding more than anything. Well Kate talked to the couple and decided she and her husband, Jesse, decided they were going to hire me for the wedding as their gift to Anna & Raquel.
So on October 3rd, I got in my car at 7AM and drove 5 hours to Blackwell, PA for one of the cutest weddings I've ever attended. The brides were beautiful and unbelievably laid back, especially for it being 40 degrees and raining on their wedding day. I had one of the best times photographing their wedding. It was truly a wonderful way to start the next chapter of my business as a traveling wedding photographer.
Thank you so much to Anna & Raquel for being so incredible and to Kate & Jesse for being truly wonderful friends to me and so many others.
